Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said on Wednesday that the seniority-cum-fitness criterion was applied in the selection of the new chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media, he said that when the rule could be applied to the appointment of the Supreme Court and high courts’ judges, then what was wrong with applying it for the appointment of a new CJP?
The minister said the government needed a less controversial judge to lead the Supreme Court; one whom all judges could call their leader.
He said that the demand for Pakistan’s crude oil was increasing in the international markets. “What is needed is better marketing in order to increase its sale,” he emphasized.
