An African-origin lioness of rare species gave birth to twin cubs at Verhari Zoo on Tuesday.

District Wildlife Officer (DWO) Mian Munir Ahmed confirmed that the lioness has given birth to twin healthy cubs after 12 years. With the addition of the newborn twin cubs, Vehari Zoo became the first Zoo of South Punjab to house seven lions.

The zoo administration celebrated the occasion and distributed sweets.

The DWO informed that the couple was completed with the arrival of a lion from Lahore Safari on Mar 6, 2018. The lioness had been caged alone at Vehari zoo since the death of an old lion in Sep 2017.

He said that both the lioness and twin cubs are perfectly health and extra-attention is being paid to their look after.

Citizens also thronged the zoo to catch a glimpse of the twin cubs. They expressed their joys over the arrival of new guests in the zoo and demanded the administration to take effective measures for the care of the twins.

The citizens also demanded the wildlife department to arrange elephant and other missing animals for the zoo to add to its beauty and tourists attraction.
