Couple falls prey to 'honour' killing in Karachi

A couple was killed in the name of ‘honour’ in Nazimabad area of Karachi on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as 50-year-old Saleem and his wife Hina. Police said the woman’s brothers killed the couple to ‘save family honour’.
SSP Aslam Rao said the lawmen arrested suspects Asif and Ashraf. The police have started investigation after registering a case.
July 21, a woman fell prey to ‘honour’ killing in Sheikhupura. Father and brother of the deceased were accused.
Conservative mindset, poor policing and week prosecution are stated to be reasons for such heinous crimes.
According to a report in February, 769 people, including 510 women, had been killed in five years in Sindh. The conviction rate stood at a mere two percent against the acquittal rate of 20.9 percent the police report said, adding that most of the cases remain unreported.
