An acute shortage of surgical items and medicines essential for angioplasty and coronary surgery across the country is badly affecting healthcare delivery to hapless patients, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a survey conducted by the 24NewsHD TV channel, the health facilities both in the private and public sectors offering treatment for cardiovascular diseases are facing difficulties due to the scarcity of heparin, guiding catheters, streptomycin injection, and oxygenators in the market.
The ongoing economic crisis in Pakistan has badly hit the healthcare system where patients have been struggling for essential medicines.
The absence of required medicines used in heart bypass surgery and angioplasty has caused health facilities of the provincial capital city to postpone a bulk of surgical procedures including angioplasty and stenting.
The drug regulatory authority seems to have failed to address the vital issue related to millions of people.
The experts said that the absence of timely import of medicines and other related items is the main reason behind the problem.
