The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday produced journalist Farhan Malick before the Judicial Magistrate (East) Karachi, after which the court sent him to jail on judicial remand in the fake news case.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Farhan Malick’s legal counsel, Advocate Abdul Moiz Jafri, appeared in court and filed a bail petition on his behalf on Tuesday. The court issued notices on the bail request.

A large number of senior journalists and TV anchors were present in the courtroom to express their support for Farhan Malick.

During the hearing, the court warned the FIA’s investigating officer against harassing anyone related to the case, stating that any such action would lead to a show cause notice against the officer.

The investigating officer informed the court that the case against Farhan Malick involved anti-state videos uploaded on a YouTube channel named ‘Raftar’, adding that more incriminating material had been gathered.

The court questioned the FIA officer, “What exactly is in these videos? Show them in court.” Farhan Malick’s lawyer stated that all relevant material was available online.

The judicial magistrate also directly inquired from Farhan Malick, “Have you been mistreated or harassed in any way?” To this, Farhan replied, “Our staff is being harassed.”

The court immediately reiterated its warning to the FIA’s investigating officer, stating that if anyone was harassed, a show-cause notice would be issued against him.

After hearing both sides, the court ordered Farhan Malick’s judicial remand and issued notices on his bail petition.
