Heavy monsoon rain lashes different upper, central Punjab cities

Different parts of central and upper Punjab, including Lahore, received heavy monsoon rains in the early hours of Friday, bringing temporary relief to the people from heat and humidity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Showers were reported from different localities of Lahore, including Johar Town, Township, WAPDA Town, Thokar Niaz Beg, Garden Town, Muslim Town, Allama Iqbal Town, Multan Chungi, Awan Town, Multan Road, Canal Road, Defence Road, Raiwind Road.
As per the statistics released by the WASA, the highest amount of rainfall 95 millimeters was recorded at Lakshmi Chowk followed by Qartaba Chowk where 88 millimeters was recorded.
Similarly, Gulshan Ravi received 77 millimeters, Pani Wala Talab 70 millimeters, Allama Iqbal Town 68 millimeters, Mughalpura and Head Office 64 millimeters each, Nishtar and Jail Road 62 millimeters each, Chowk Nakhuda 61 millimeters, Farrukhabad 55 millimeters, Samanabad 54 millimeters, Upper Mall 48 millimeters, Tajpura 42 millimeters and Johar Town 32 millimeters.
WASA said on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, its MD Ghufran Ahmad was monitoring the drainage of water.
The MD visited Mubeen Shaheed and Kalma Chowk underpasses.
He also visited the monsoon camps set up at Liberty Chowk and Usman Block Disposal Station.
Ghufran said that the water was being drained out without any break.
He directed the concerned officials to speed up the process.
Torrential rains, accompanied by strong winds, were also reported from other cities of the province namely Nankana Sahib, Muridke, Farooqabad, Narowal, Nowshera Virkan, Pasrur, Malakwal, Daska, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and their outskirts, resulting in tripping of feeders and eventually suspension of power supply to different areas.
