At the request of fast bowler Haris Rauf, the national cricket team management has allowed him to stay in New Zealand to join the one-day squad, reported 24NewsHDTV channel on Wednesday.
Quoting its sources, the channel reported that the team management had also decided to ask Usman Khan to stay in New Zealand so that he could play as a backup wicketkeeper batsman in the One-Day International (ODI) series.
Both Haris and Usman would join the one-day squad at Napier tomorrow.
Nine players, including captain Muhammad Rizwan, are already at Napier.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) had on Tuesday announced a 13-member squad, including a Pakistan-origin batter for the upcoming home ODI series against Pakistan, starting on March 29.
All-rounder Muhammad Abbas and Nick Kelly have earned their maiden calls to the New Zealand squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series at home against Pakistan.
However, after making himself unavailable, New Zealand stalwart Kane Williamson wasn’t considered for selection.
Due to workload management, towering fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, who played in the Champions Trophy and the ongoing T2OI series against Pakistan, will also miss the upcoming series.
