Water level in Punjab rivers still high as heavy rain buffets many cities

Heavy monsoon showers continue to lash different parts of the country, especially Punjab, which has resulted in considerable increase in water levels in rivers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Coupled with it is the release of water by India into rivers which has made the matters worse.
Mother, three kids die in Mansehra landslide
A massive landslide triggered by heavy rain in Mansehra claimed lives of four persons including mother and her three children on Thursday.
All dead bodies were recovered from the rubble by the rescue teams.
The incident occurred after heavy rains in the Mansehra city and its surrounding areas which caused huge destruction.
The floodwater brought down a bridge in Mansehra area of Potha.
Three more die in Balochistan
On the other hand, three persons died due to rains and gushing water currents in different areas of Balochistan.
The deaths were reported from Khuzdar, Kech and Jhal Magsi during the last 24 hours.
Man dies as roof of snooker club collapses in Lahore
A man died after the roof of a snooker club collapsed in the Baghbanpura area of Lahore due to heavy rain.
According to rescue sources, the incident took place near Sukh Canal.
One person was buried under the rubble of the collapsed roof and died.
The rescue teams recovered the body and handed it over to the police.
It is to be noted here that heavy rain lashed different parts of Lahore. The highest rainfall was recorded in Tajpura, 186 mm.
River Indus burst its banks at Layyah
Crops grown over thousands of acres of land have been inundated as water from River Indus, which is in medium flood at Layyah, has spilled over into nearby villages.
Presently 370,000 cusecs of water is passing through the river, while the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast that the water level will rise to 400,000 in the next few hours.
The district administration has set up 16 points and 17 medical camps in low-lying areas.
It has also arranged 16 boats to evacuate people from their homes.
Water level again rising at Nullah Dek
Water level has again started rising at Nullah Dek in Pasrur as against its storage capacity of 40,000 cusecs presently it stands at 15,000 cusecs.
Tehsil administration and rescue teams have been put on a high alert while camps have been set up at different places to deal with any emergency.
Water receding at Korangi causeway
Although water from Malir stream is still there at Karachi’s Korangi causeway, but it is receding.
It is likely to recede further by evening, and the road will be opened for traffic.
Rawalpindi’s Nullah Lai also surges
Similarly, water level in Rawalpindi’s Nullah Lai is also rising.
Rains in Punjab, Karachi
On the other hand, rain has been pouring in Lahore and other cities of Punjab for the last few days, while the meteorological department has forecast countrywide rains during the next week, which may result in urban flooding.
It has been raining intermittently in the Punjab capital since last night, which has resulted in marked drop in temperatures besides ridding people of humid weather.
There are reports of rain from Lal Pull, Mughalpura, Harbanspura, Dharampura, Saddar Bazaar, Bhatta Chowk, Ring Road, Johar Town, Iqbal Town, Band Road, Shahdara, The Mall, Ferozepur Road, Thokar Niaz Beg, Kot Lakhpat, Jinnah Hospital, General Hospital and the areas surrounding the airport.
Tajpura in Lahore has received the highest amount of rainfall, totaling 186 millimeters while 75 millimeters of rain was recorded at the airport.
Rains have also been reported from Murree, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Joharabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Gujranwala and Kot Addu.
Different parts of Karachi, including Tower, Old City Area, II Chundrigar Road, Sharae Faisal, Lucky Star, Saddar, MA Jinnah Road, North Nazimabad, Tariq Road, Korangi, Malir and Gulistan-e-Johar, have also received rain during the last 24 hours.
In Sindh, the highest amount of rainfall 164 millimeters was recorded at Pad Idan. Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas also received showers.
Likewise, rains have also been reported from Islamabad, different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.
