The deadlock persists as both federal and Punjab governments have not agreed on the appointment of the provincial chief secretary (CS) as yet, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
On the other hand, CS Kamran Ali Afzal, whose 14-day leave is going to end on September 30, 2022, has decided not to return to the office; resultantly Abdullah Sumbal will perform the additional duty of CS for 15 more days.
There are reports that Sumbal might be appointed Punjab chief secretary for good.
On August 18, 2022, the federal government had declined the Punjab government’s request to change chief secretary of the province.
Earlier, the Punjab government had sent a summary to the Centre carrying names of three candidates for replacing the current chief secretary.
In response, the federal government had declined the request, saying Kamran Ali Afzal will remain the chief secretary of Punjab.
The Punjab government had earlier decided to change Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal, and it also sent a summary to the federal government for a new chief secretary.
According to the official sources, three names were suggested for the new chief secretary in the Punjab government’s summary which had been sent to the Establishment Division.
The names of Babar Hayat Tarar, Abdullah Sumbal and Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera had been included in the summary.
“The decision for the appointment of a new chief secretary will be taken on the advice of the Prime Minister’s Office,” said the Establishment Division sources.
