The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday rejected the request of Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Quddus Bizenjo to postpone Senate elections on a seat that fell vacant seat over the death of Senator Kalsoom Parveen, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

According to the ECP, the election will be held as per schedule on January 14.

Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has written a letter to Election Commission and Chairman Senate for postponing Senate elections.

Bizenjo, in his letter, has said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced election on the Senate’s seat which went vacant after the death of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s Senator Kalsoom Parveen on January 14.

He said that it is not possible to hold an election due to the spread of coronavirus pandemic during its second wave and asked to postpone the election and conduct it on the seat with February polls of the Senate.

Bizenjo said the said Senate seat would automatically vacate on March 11 on it was not necessary to hold election on the seat at this moment and election on this seat can be held when the ECP announces Senate elections for other seats.

Chairman Senate has asked the ECP to decide the matter in this regard.
