Expressing deep concern over the rejection of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway project by the ECNEC, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has decided to pen a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, requesting to convene meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI) on the subject, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Lodging Sindh government’s protest over unfair distribution of water and energy, the Sindh chief minister will write the letter to the PM after Eidul Fitr, sources in the provincial government said.

It may be mentioned here that during the ECNEC meeting Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar had rejected Sindh Local Bodies Minister Saeed Ghani’s demand to include Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway project in PSDP, the sources said and added Saeed Ghani also demanded not to debate Lahore-Sahiwal-Bahawalnagar Motorway project.

In reaction, Ishaq Dar told Saeed Ghani that he is doing politics, the sources said and added that the development has been reported to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Sindh for CCI meeting on water issue

The Sindh government wanted to resolve water issue through legal channels and in this respect a letter was dispatched to the federal government in which it was suggested to convene meeting Council of Common Interests (CCI) immediately.

Sources said that the letter was signed by Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Inter-Provincial Haroon Ejaz and was dispatched to Council of Common Interests Secretariat.

In the letter, the Sindh government pointed out that a meeting of Council of Common Interest must be held within 90 days while the 51st meeting of Council of Common Interest was held on January 29, 2024.

The 52nd meeting was summoned on July 22, 2024 but later postponed without any reason. The letter further stated that some issues already becoming serious and specialty distribution of energy, water and other inter-provincial economic issues are delayed.

The letter revealed that all these issues demanded that an urgent meeting should be convened to resolve all outstanding issues and this is constitutional duty of the federal government.

In the letter Sindh government expressed hope that meeting will be convened at the earliest to settle these issues.
