The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore resumed the hearing of the rumors case involving a false claim about the rape of a student at a private college. The accused, Sara Khan, who allegedly fabricated the story and spread it on social media, was produced in court from jail.
During the proceedings, two witnesses recorded their statements against the accused. The prosecution also submitted a challan against Sara Khan, detailing how she falsely claimed to be the victim’s mother in a video, which was then uploaded to social media to gain views.
According to the police investigation, the viral misinformation triggered protests and riots at the private college, creating panic among students. The Gulberg Police Station had registered a case against Sara Khan for inciting unrest and spreading false rumors.
The court has summoned more witnesses for the next hearing and adjourned the case until April 4. Judge Arshad Javed of the Anti-Terrorism Court is overseeing the proceedings.
