On his first day as the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s Supreme Court, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi demonstrated a fast-paced approach, clearing 24 cases in just one hour and 15 minutes.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, from 9:30 am to 10:45 am on Monday, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard 30 cases, of which six were adjourned until 11:30 am.
As per the channel report, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi conducted the hearings in Bench No 1 alongside Justice Shahid Bilal.
According to media reports, Chief Justice Afridi has resolved a staggering 968 cases over a week in eight different benches.
In a bid to reduce the court’s heavy backlog, he advised judges to continue hearing cases until the evening rather than taking leave at 11:00 am.
The Chief Justice emphasised the need for a "war footing" approach to clear the case burden on the Supreme Court.
Additionally, he advised the judges to dictate their detailed decisions late into the night, reinforcing his commitment to streamlining the judicial process and addressing the caseload more effectively.
