Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa on Thursday fined a lawyer Rs100,000 for wasting the time of the apex court in a useless property case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
“The demonstration of baseless and useless litigation was held earlier too in the court. The court generally remains lenient,” the CJP remarked.
“The petitioner filed a baseless and fabricated case in the past as well, and he was fined Rs200,000 by the high court,” he added.
“Money damages should be paid to the parties in the case. For the non-payment of damages, there is a civil court forum,” he ordered.
A three-member bench, headed by the CJP, conducted the hearing.
It is to be noted here that lawyer Ghulam Fareed was fined by the Supreme Court in the property case of a citizen named Muhammad Ilyas.
Also, the CJP expressed his anger over a lawyer for not presenting his arguments in a tax case.
“Give arguments on merit in the case,” the CJP said to lawyer Fayyaz Shirazi.
“Tell me, is your petition admissible?” he questioned the lawyer.
“Our case is overdue,” lawyer Fayyaz Shirazi told the court.
“The court wants to hear your case, and you are saying it is overdue. You are not a clerk, but a senior advocate of the Supreme Court,” the CJP remarked.
“You are a respected person, for you are a senior lawyer and you have a great status,” he added.
The CJP, however, rejected the review petition for not presenting arguments.
