A 60-year-old man died as he arrived at the local Ehsaas Centre in Layyah to collect money being disbursed to the deserving people because of coronavirus pandemic, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to details, Atta Hussain fainted because of heat at the gate of the local college where the centre has been established. As a result, he was injured. The Rescue 1122 officials rushed him to hospital where he expired.
The federal government has been facing criticism due to the mode of distributing the money among the people.
Previously, they used to get money through ATM machines under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). But they are now supposed to visit the centres to get the emergency stipend in cash.
The critics say the huge crowds means that physical distancing cannot be ensured at the facilities which is quite opposite to the purpose for which this emergency one-time grant of Rs12,000 has been announced.
