Three PIA planes airlift vaccine from Beijing to Islamabad

One of the three Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Boeing 777 special flights has arrived in Islamabad from Beijing at 7.30am today carrying coronavirus vaccine doses from Beijing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The second flight will arrive in Islamabad at 12 noon while the third is expected to land in Islamabad at 12 midnight.

A total of one million vaccines will be brought to Pakistan through each of the three flights.

A PIA spokesperson said, “The operation is part of a larger initiative to combat the pandemic on the behest of the government of Pakistan and we would continue to serve this great nation at the time of crisis.”

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Dr Faisal Sultan said that of 18.7 million doses [received and expected] until June, 78 percent was purchased by the government.

Pakistan enforced several measures including troops deployment to put a virtually a barricade against the spread of a third wave of coronavirus keeping in view the neighboring country India's situation where deaths on Wednesday officially surged past 200,000. But the true death toll is believed to be far higher.
