As many as 10 planes of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have failed to operate after passage of one year as necessary spare parts were not available to make them fly again, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Sources said that due to negligence of PIA management, spare parts required for these planes were not purchased timely.
Currently there are 26 planes owned by PIA of which 10 planes are already grounded due to technical faults and non-availability of spare parts.
The sources further said that only five 777 planes are being operated out of nine planes while remaining four planes are non-operational due to different reasons.
Among Airbus 320 planes, only 10 planes are operational while remaining three planes are non-functional and only one plane of ATR is functional out of four.
The sources said that wrong policies adopted by senior officials of PIA engineering department PIA’s domestic and international flight operation is affected badly.
Delay and cancellation of flights due to non-availability of spare parts and other reasons are a routine matter nowadays.
During the privatization process of PIA, interested parties who were taking part in this process also grilled the management on this issue.
But despite all this, no practical steps are being taken from PIA engineering department to make these grounded planes fly again.
