An accountability court in Islamabad on Friday issued arrest warrants for PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif for not appearing in person despite receiving a notice in the Treasure House case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Meanwhile, the court exempted former president Asif Ali Zardari from the Friday’s hearing after an application for the purpose was filed on his behalf, citing poor health. However, the judge, Asghar Ali, asked him to attend the next hearing scheduled for June 11 at every cost.
During the hearing, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Muzaffar Ali opposed application filed by Zardari and asked the court to issue non-bailable arrest warrants for Nawaz and Zardari.
The NAB also requested the court to order arrest of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Abdul Ghani Majeed.
The defence council said the accused, Anwer Majeed, was under treatment at hospital, as the judge said how the court could order arrests when the NAB chairman had not issued warrants.
Meanwhile, no one appeared before the court during the hearing to represent Nawaz in the case.
Talking to media after the hearing, Gilani remarked that he was NAB-zadda [affected by NAB], not NAB-zaada [those controlling the NAB] and that he had faced imprisonment in the past too. The former prime minister, however, said he respected the courts.
He executed his job according to rules, he said and questioned why a summary had been sent to him if it wasn’t legal. The price of vehicles should be determined by the FBR, added the former prime minister.
Gilani said how he could filed a case against the country’s president [Asif Ali Zardari] and forced to appear before a Swiss magistrate. Article 6 would have been applicable to him if he had done so, he added.
