Pakistan Muslim League Zia group (PML-Z) President Ijaz ul Haq clarifies to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that his party has not merged with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Ijaz ul Haq replied to the letter of the ECP about his party status and intra-party elections for the forthcoming general elections.
He said in his reply, "In response to your letter dated 05th May 2023 it is stated that the undersigned has his own political party i.e Pakistan Muslim League (Zia ul Haq Shaheed) having it's own distinct political and legal identity with hierarchical and organizational structures."
He further stated, "The undersigned has not merged his aforementioned political party in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He had a meeting with Chairman PTI Imran Khan and the media wrongly inferring from it carried reports of a merger which was wrong. The party may have an election alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the ensuing election but no merger has taken place and the news regarding it have no substance. So kindly stand cleared on this count.
Earlier on May 05, the ECP sent a letter to Ijaz ul Haq for clarifications 1) Whether the Pakistan Muslim League (Zia-ul-Haq Shaheed) has been merged into Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf; 2) Whether you are contesting forthcoming general elections (2023) on the ticket of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf;
3) You are, therefore, requested to clarify the position and status of PML (Z) to proceed further in light of Section 200 (2) (3) and Section 203 (3) of the Elections Act, 2017.
