PDM and JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the country would have faced mutiny, had the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government lingered on to power.

The Maulana expressed these views while talking to 24NewsHD TV channel in Dera Ismael Khan on Saturday.

He said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (a multi-party alliance) saved the country by taking reins from the Imran Khan-led government. “But after Imran, the biggest challenge the government is facing today is country’s reconstruction which has been left in tatters,” the Maulana said.

He deplored that the Imran government agreed to a very harsh deal with the International Monetary Fund about which his own government people had expressed their resentment. “Now the IMF has holding us by the throat,” the Maulana said adding that on top of that we were hit by the calamitous floods.

Maulana Fazl bemoaned that the recent floods decimated large swathes of country killing people, besides inflicting huge losses to property and destroying crops. The agricultural lands which have been ruined by floods this year, they could not be able to yield till next year, he added.

He was of the view that $1.17 billion IMF tranche was not enough to solve our economic problems but the revived loan programme had paved ways for our friendly countries to help us out.

He said since the flood assistance was pouring in from the world, so the rehabilitation of flood affectees was our priority.

“We should put aside all our political differences and work on war-footing for the rehabilitation of flood-hit people,” Fazl observed.
