Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said Islamabad High Court's decision to hold local government election in a day can’t be applicable reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold local government elections in the capital city on December 31 (tomorrow) and set aside the ECP’s order dated Dec 27 on the postponement of the polls.

The verdict was pronounced by IHC Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, who was hearing petitions filed by the PTI and the Jamaat-i-Islami against the ECP’s decision.

Rana Sanaullah said he respected the court but holding the elections is not possible in Islamabad.  “Arrangements for holding the LG polls cannot be made in such a short period.”

He added that as many as 1,000 polling stations needed security, election material is still not deployed at the stations and the polling staff will also be needed. “This isn’t possible.”

The minister said it will take four to five months for local body elections.

Rana Sanaullah said the capital city had a suicide attack a few days ago and there were already threat alerts in Islamabad.
