Where the shortage of irrigation water in Sindh has damaged other crops, the production of mangoes in the province has also been greatly affected, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
The irrigation water deficit is seriously affecting agricultural produce in Sindh. This year everyone’s favorite type of mangoes called ‘Sindhri mangoes’ would not hit the fruit market in bulk as its production has been greatly affected due to paucity of canal water in the province.
This year the production of Sindhri mango remained 50% less than that of last year’s. And the size of mango is also small as compared to last year’s produce.
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Vice President PPP Senator Sherry Rehman pointed to this fact in her tweet yesterday. She warns of 50pc cut in mango output - Pakistan - heat waves impact lives, livelihoods and export crops & forex earnings.”

In her tweets on Saturday, she wrote: “The King of Pakistan’s summer crop, the succulent mango, has taken a big hit in production this year because of the heat wave and water deficits. The Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters Association has had to slash its export target by 25,000 tonnes, compared to last years.”

Mango export volumes of only 125,000 tonnes will impact not just livelihoods and incomes at a time of high inflationary pressures, it will also mean a $160 million cut in foreign exchange earnings. #waterscarcity #Pakistan #GlobalWarming
