Reaffirimgin Pakistan People’s Party’s commitment to democracy and stability, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has highlighted the party's enduring legacy.
“The PPP is present in every corner of the country,” he said in his speech on the party's Foundation Day via video link from Karachi Saturday.
He added “Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of democracy in Pakistan. He gave the country a constitution. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power.
“I consider Shaheed Bhutto's legacy the solution to all problems. Bhutto brought about a revolution by giving the slogan of Roti Kapra Makan."
Bilawal paid homage to his late mother, Benazir Bhutto, saying: “Shaheed Bibi’s government symbolized empowerment through initiatives.”
He continued: “Her bravery and leadership captivated not only the nation but the world. She remained with the people even in the face of mortal danger, ultimately laying down her life in Rawalpindi.”
Bilawal praised former President Asif Ali Zardari's pivotal role in the party's achievements, particularly in passing the landmark 18th Amendment, giving provinces greater autonomy, and launching the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), which continues to combat poverty.
“President Zardari has set records in economic and social reforms, from Balochistan’s rights to renaming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he stated.
The PPP Chairman criticized attempts to marginalize the party, including restrictions during the 2013 elections and conspiracies to undermine its influence.
He accused terrorist organizations of siding with political opponents to hinder the PPP's campaigns. Despite all conspiracies, he said the PPP remained a significant force in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and at the federal level.
Addressing Pakistan’s current challenges, Bilawal emphasized the need for political stability and dialogue.
“The country is grappling with economic problems and terrorism. Political stability is the key to addressing these issues,” he said.
He criticized the opposition’s focus on ousting leadership rather than solving public issues and reiterated the PPP's policy of supporting dialogue over divisive measures like banning political parties or imposing Governor’s Rule.
Bilawal reaffirmed the PPP's longstanding stance against terrorism, warning of its resurgence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
“Terrorism continues to affect Sindh and the federation. Our resolve to combat it remains unwavering,” he declared.
Bilawal called for collective decision-making and consensus-driven solutions, stating, “PPP has always believed in dialogue to resolve conflicts. Our committee will work towards bringing all stakeholders to the table for Pakistan’s brighter future.”
