Heavy snowfall in country’s northern areas brings life to standstill

Rain and snow continuing in northern and upper parts of the country, including popular hill resort Murree, for the last three days have not only to a considerable drop in temperatures but have also paralyzed routine life, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.


In Murree, following the instructions of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the administration is on high alert.


The hill station has received 0.5 inches of snow in just three hours, while the Met Office, on the other hand, has predicted heavy snowfall for the city and its suburbs during the next 24 hours.   


Spokesman for the PDMA has said that in order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, salt is being sprayed on the city roads. “Besides that, heavy machinery is also being used to remove snow from the routes,” he has informed.


He has stressed the need for spreading information about the measures people could take to save their lives and properties.  


The spokesman has said it is the duty of the administration to cater to the needs of people in view of bad weather.


At the same time, he has advised tourists to visit the hill station only when the weather is fine.


First snowfall enhances beauty of Tirah Valley


On the other hand, first snowfall of the winter season in Tirah Valley of district Khyber of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has not only signaled an end to a long period of drought but has also added to the beauty of the area.


People are flocking to the hill station in droves.


People confined to their homes in Upper Dir


Similarly, the blockade of roads due to persistent heavy snowfall in Upper Dir has cut off people of the area from their surroundings.


Food shortage has also been reported from these areas.


Heavy snowfall disrupts routine life in Hazara


Heavy snowfall in Abbottabad and Galyat has not only turned the weather bitterly cold in these areas but has also severed road connections.


Rain turns weather cold in Lahore, other Punjab cities


Light to moderate rain in different parts of Lahore late Tuesday night turned the weather cold.


Rain was reported from Canal Road, Icchra, Model Town, Kalima Chowk, Jain Mandir, Kot Lakhpat, Chungi Amarsidhu, Samanabad and suburbs.


Karachi receives light rain


Showers were reported not only from the northern and upper parts of the country, but also from Karachi where light rain on Tuesday night turned the weather slightly cold.


Minimum temperature on Wednesday morning was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius, which was expected to fluctuate between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius later in the afternoon.


Humidity level in the air was recorded at 88 per cent, while breeze was blowing at the speed of seven to 10 kilometers per hour.


Met Office predicts more rain, snow


The weather department, on the other hand, has forecast more rain and heavy snowfall for northern and upper parts of the country, including Lahore and plains of Punjab, during the next 24 hours.
