The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has cancelled all the wedding bookings in its wedding halls following the Supreme Court orders.

Talking to the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday CAA Spokesperson Saifullah Khan said the CAA would comply with the Supreme Court of Pakistan orders and no wedding function would be arranged at CAA Karachi Club. “We respect court orders,” he said.

Earlier, the TV channel reported that the Civil Aviation Authority continued to hold wedding functions at Karachi Club on Saturday—located on CAA’s land—against the Supreme Court orders given by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed.

The CJP ordered the CAA director general to shut down the wedding halls and stop all marriage functions.

The court ordered to stop all commercial activities especially wedding functions being held on the CAA premises.

Club Spokesperson said that Karachi Club has wedding functions booking till February. “After February, we will not hold any function in these wedding halls,” he added.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed issued the ruling while hearing a case pertaining to the allotment of CAA’s lands to others at the SC's Karachi Registry a few days back.

The apex court ordered that the lands allotted to CAA must be used for airport purposes only.

The CJP said that 200 acres of land were allotted to CAA for airports not for running marriage halls.
