Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nasir Butt has said General (r) Amjad Shoaib falsely accused him of killing Arshad Sharif, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
Addressing a press conference in London, he said that Amjad Shoaib is a corrupt person who alleged that the senior journalist was killed by Nasir Butt at the behest of Maryam Nawaz.
“I am filing a suit against Amjad Shoaib for Rs750 million damages,” he said. He came down hard on former Prime Minister Imran Khan Khan for maligning him.
“I have never been to Kenya or Nairobi. Imran Niazi and Amjad Shoaib should also be investigated in connection with the killing of Arshad Sharif," he stressed.
He described Imran Niazi as the top boot polisher. The London-based PML-N leader said he would go to Pakistan if a trial court summons him in connection with Arshad Sharif’s killing.
Last week, Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Kenya where he was living in a self-imposed exile. The Kenyan police had said that the journalist was killed in a case of “mistaken identity”.
Several Kenyan news outlets not only questioned the police’s conduct but also raised questions over the manner in which he was killed. Left five children, his mother and two wives to mourn. The bereaved family called for a judicial inquiry and public hearings. He was awarded ‘Presidential Pride of Performance’ for his exceptional journalism in the year 2019.
