Religious figures from all schools of thought presented a practical example of love and brotherhood in the holy month of Muharram, Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, president of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and former prime minister of Pakistan, said on Friday.

“The Chaudhry family has a religious background and they have always played an important role in promoting law and order,” said Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council and president of the Interfaith Harmony Committee, during a meeting with Chaudhry Shujat Hussain on Saturday.

Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi’s sons were also present at Ashraf’s meetings with Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, Shafay Hussain and Salik Hussain.

Shujat said that Muharram passed peacefully in Pakistan this year and the Interfaith Harmony Committee played a very important role in the promotion of peace and interfaith harmony in the country. “If religious figures of every school of thought start preaching love and brotherhood the way they did in Muharram this year, miscreants will not get any opportunity to spread religious hatred,” Shujat said.

Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi thanked Shujat for praising his role in interfaith harmony. He said that currently religious figures are on one platform on law and order.
