Pakistan breaks single-day corona death record with 97 fatalities

Pakistan has recorded a new single-day high of coronavirus deaths as it registered 97 more fatalities from the Covid-19 during the last 24 hours.

According to the update released by National Command and Operation Centre early Saturday, Pakistan continued to face a steady rise in the number of virus-infected people as the total number of coronavirus cases jumped to 93,983 after addition of another 4,734 during the past 24 hours (Friday).

The country has recorded a heavy number of coronavirus cases during the last four days. It was 4,896 on Thursday, 4,688 on Wednesday, 4,131 on Tuesday and 3,938 on Monday.

The latest NCOC figures on Saturday also showed that record 97 people died of the coronavirus, raising the death toll to 1,935.

Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan reached yet another tragic milestone as it surpassed China in the total number of coronavirus cases.

The overall number of coronavirus cases reported in Sindh now stands at 34,889, followed by 35,308 in Punjab, 12,459 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,776 in Balochistan, 4,323 in Islamabad, 897 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 331 in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, 1,265 patients are in critical condition and being treated in ICUs at different hospitals across the country, as the total number of hospitalised persons now stands at 5,060.

Meanwhile, Punjab reported 30 new deaths after which the total number in the province rose to 659 followed by 615 in Sindh with the addition of another 40 deaths during the past 24 hours.

The number of deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa climbed to 541 as the province recorded 20 more fatalities. It is followed by Balochistan 54, Islamabad 45, Gilgit-Baltistan 13 and Azad Kashmir eight.

As far as the active cases are concerned, there are 59,467 people in the country still infected by the virus while the number of those fully recovered from the infection has reached 32,581.

The past 24 hours also saw 22,185 tests conducted in the country, which means the overall number since the outbreak of pandemic has increased to 660,508.
