While hearing the petition filed by the mother of late journalist Arshad Sharif against not providing her the post-mortem report of her son, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday issued notices to the respondents and sought an answer from them by November 15, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC heard the petition.
“On November 3 last, the focal person for the Arshad Sharif’s family asked for the post-mortem report from the administration,” the petition said.
“The administration in its reply said that they do not have the post-mortem report, and that the police have it. But when the family’s focal person went to the police, they also refused and asked him to contact the administration,” it added.
“The management of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has been contacted repeatedly for the post-mortem report, but they neither refuse nor provide the report,” it maintained.
“The PIMs and the local administration have kept the Arshad Sharif’s family in dark about the post-mortem report. The late journalist’s family is being humiliated in difficult times for a report,” it loathed.
“The petitioner suspects that the post-mortem report can be altered to distort the facts,” it concerned.
“Arshad Sharif’s family should be kept informed at all times to make the whole process transparent. Directions be issued for the proceeding of the entire process without any third-party intervention,” it pleaded.
“The focal person for the Arshad Sharif’s family should be included in the entire process. The post-mortem report should be provided to the Arshad Sharif’s family and should not be made public without the family’s permission,” it pleaded further.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till November 15 next.
