Navy launches plantation campaign for greener Pakistan

Pakistan Navy on Monday launched a plantation drive on Monday as part of national efforts to improve the environment and fight Climate Change.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi inaugurated the Pakistan Navy Spring Tree Plantation Campaign-2020 by planting a sapling at Shuhada Monument lawn at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.

Under the campaign, Pakistan Navy plans to plant 300,000 indigenous tree saplings at the Margalla Hills alone.

The overall target is planting of more than 4 million trees in different parts of country during present year, said a press release issued by Pakistan Navy.

The campaign will hopefully contribute towards improving the country’s ecosystem.

Chief of the Naval Staff, in his message on the occasion, highlighted devastating effects of climate change and emphasized the need for redressal of this challenge with shared efforts.

He underlined that millions of trees have been planted in naval shore establishments along coastal belt to create awareness and achieve sustainable results.

The Admiral urged the need of upscale afforestation efforts for socio-economic development and healthier environment for future generations.

The event was attended by senior Naval officers and personnel. Special prayers for successful completion and encouraging effects of afforestation were also offered.
