An Elite Force official embraced martyrdom when some unknown terrorists opened fire at Shehbaz Khel check post in tehsil Ghazni Khel, Lakki Marwat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

According to police sources, some militants opened fire at Shehbaz Khel check post and martyred an Elite Force official. The police retaliated and traded fire with the assailants. The police retaliation held the militants off and they repulsed. 

Rescue sources said that the body of martyred police official was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for post mortem. 

Police have cordoned off the area and have started search operation. 

On December 18, some unknown terrorists stormed Bargai police station in Lakki Marwat. A trade of fire was ensued between the miscreants and the police officials. Four policemen were martyred during the gunfire and four others got hurt.

Yesterday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir called on all stakeholders to develop a “national consensus” to confront challenges posed by the “economy and terrorism”.

The army chief’s comments come amid a spate of terrorist attacks in the country after the proscribed outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government, ordering its militants to carry out attacks throughout the country.

On Friday, a meeting of National Security Committee was held under the chair of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. 

Senior civilian and military leaders were part of the meeting.

The meeting resolved that that “terrorists are the enemies of Pakistan” as it vowed to respond “with full force” to those who challenge the country.

During the meeting, the heads of intelligence institutions gave a detailed briefing to the participants on the law and order situation in the country, the recent wave of terrorism, and steps to tackle it.

The statement issued after the conclave read: “The meeting expressed determination that terrorists are enemies of Pakistan. The entire nation is united on one narrative against terrorism and terrorists. Those who challenge Pakistan will get a full-force response.”

The statement added that the NSC meeting will continue on Monday (tomorrow) in which further decisions will be taken in light of the proposals.
