A rickshaw driver fled with bridal dowry items worth over Rs100,000 in Karachi’s North Nazimabad No. 4 area, leaving a family devastated just weeks before their daughter's wedding, reported24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the victim’s family, the young man's sister is set to marry later this month. His mother and aunt had gone to Liaquatabad Market to purchase essential dowry items, including expensive kitchenware.
After completing their shopping, they hired a rickshaw to transport the goods to their home in Orangi Town. The items were carefully loaded into the vehicle, with some tied securely to the roof with ropes.
However, as they reached North Nazimabad No. 4, the rickshaw driver suddenly stopped, forcibly removed the women from the vehicle, and sped away with the dowry items.
The family immediately reported the incident to the Nazimabad police station, but they were only issued a handwritten complaint rather than a formal First Information Report (FIR).
CCTV footage from the market captured the suspect wearing a traditional shalwar kameez.
The evidence suggests that the rickshaw driver may have been strategically present at the market, possibly as part of a planned operation targeting unsuspecting shoppers.
The victimized family has urged law enforcement authorities to take swift action to apprehend the culprit and recover the stolen dowry items.
