An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Mardan on Tuesday acquitted 254 suspects in cases of the May 9 violence due to lack of evidence, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
However, the court did not order the release of 69 PTI workers.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Food Muhammad Zahir Shah Toru , MPA Abdus Salam and another PTI leader Iftikhar Mashwani were among these 69 workers, while senior PTI leader Atif Khan and MPA Tariq Aryani were among those who were given a clean chit in these cases.
Thousands of people took to the streets in all major cities of the country on May 9, 2023 after hearing the news of the arrest of their leader Imran Khan.
They went berserk, and ransacked government and military installations besides setting them on fire and damaging memorials of the Pakistan Army martyrs.
