CJP Afridi concerned over poor conditions of prisons

Supreme Court Chief Justice Yahya Afridi presided over the meeting on prison reforms in Lahore, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Alia Neelam, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza, recently-released Khadija Shah, Lahore Central Jail Superintendent Saima Amin Khawaja, Senator Ahad Cheema and senior officials attended the meeting.
Expressing concerns over poor prison conditions, the chief justice said the jails have a capacity of 66,625 while the number of inmates is 108,643.
He said the Punjab prisons have 67,837 inmates against the capacity of 36,365, adding that 36,128 accused are waiting for the trial to start.
In Punjab, these issues have to be resolved at the earliest, he stressed.
