Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Friday released report of loans obtained by federal government during first half of current fiscal year 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to Ministry of Finance report, the federal government had obtained loan amounting to Rs74,000 billion during first half of current fiscal year 2025.

The report further revealed that volume of debt remained Rs49,883 billion from July 2024 to December 2024.

During the above mentioned period volume of foreign debt was 24,130 billion.

In the first quarter of current fiscal year, volume of government debt was stood over Rs67,000 billion.

The report stated that an increase of 3.9 registered during first half of current as compared with the same period of previous fiscal year.

The report said that five percent increase was witnessed in local debt.

Ministry of Finance report said that volume of locally obtained debt 67 percent which is equal to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while volume of foreign debt reached to 33 percent.

As per the report during first half of current fiscal year Rs5.1 trillion were spent on paying of interest while Rs4.2 trillion were paid under the head of interest during the same period of previous fiscal year.

During the month of December, 2024 foreign debt figures crossed to $86.62 billion while in December 2024 federal government obtained $78.12 billion during December, 2024.
