Federal Finance Ministry has refused to provide funds to AJK government for holding elections immediately, reported 24News HD TV channel.
The sources said that the AJK government had demanded Rs7 billion grant for holding elections and food subsidy from the federal government.
The sources said the government would provide Rs1.5 billion for food subsidy, however, the finance ministry turned down the request of providing Rs6 billion extra grant for holding the elections, saying they were unable to provide funds immediately.
The AJK government had requested an extra grant for the current fiscal year.
It is pertinent to mention here that the NCOC had suggested a delay in the election in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
It had written a letter to the AJK election commission to delay the polls for few months. On the other hand, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haidar had spoken against delaying the elections. He had said if by-polls could be held despite pandemic then the AJK election could also be held.
Major political parties including the PPP, the PML-N, and JI had also rejected the proposal of delaying the elections.
