Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced the restoration of the Khan Khattak Express, a passenger train service between Karachi and Peshawar, after a hiatus of five years.

The train was suspended in March 2020 in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. Now PR will make it fully operational by the end of April 2025

Speaking to the media, Abbasi said the Khan Khattak Express is a profitable and popular public train that runs on Main Line-2 (ML-2) and connects several important cities across the country.

“This train provides a vital travel link between major urban centers, including Karachi City, Kotri, Dadu, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kot Addu, Kot Sultan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Kundian, Mianwali, Jand, Attock City, Nowshera and Peshawar Cantt,” Abbasi stated.

He further added that Khan Khattak Express is the only passenger train that travels from Kotri Junction to Attock City Junction via Larkana, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Mianwali on ML-2, offering a crucial transportation route for millions.

The restoration is seen as a major step towards strengthening Pakistan’s rail infrastructure and fulfilling the government’s promise of better and more affordable transportation for the public.
