Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken notice of overcharging from Pakistanis stranded in UAE by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The Prime Minister took the notice after complaints from Pakistanis stuck in UAE as some agents are charging more than 2,000 dirhams for one-way fare on PIA flights.
Reacting quickly, PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan said that PIA's one-way fare from UAE to any city in Pakistan is 1,120 dirhams (Rs 49,851) and asked passengers to lodge overcharging complaints.
Due to the mad rush in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the PIA has allowed agents along with Pakistani consulates in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and its offices to book passengers who wanted to travel to Pakistan on special PIA flights.
Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar has now instructed the PIA authorities to control the fares and provide relief to the Pakistanis.
The PIA spokesperson said passengers seeking PIA tickets can obtain them from offices located at diplomatic missions in UAE. “If any PIA booking office in Pakistan or agent in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is found involved in overcharging then do report it to the PIA immediately.”
