The Punjab School Education Department has issued a new dress code policy for teachers at both government and private schools across the province on Tuesday.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the department has made it mandatory for female teachers to wear shalwar kameez with a dupatta during school hours.

Male teachers, on the other hand, have been prohibited from wearing jeans and T-shirts while on duty.

The department emphasised that teachers must adhere to these guidelines to maintain a professional and culturally appropriate environment in educational institutions.

In addition to the dress code policy, the School Education Department has directed all government and private schools in Punjab to make proper arrangements for Zuhr prayer during school hours.

It is worth noting that similar dress codes have previously been introduced in educational institutions and government departments. In January 2021, Hazara University enforced a strict dress code, banning jeans, jewellery, and heavy makeup for female students and restricting male students from wearing bracelets and earrings.

On January 26, 2021, the Punjab government also mandated formal attire for government officials appearing in court. The new directives required a shalwar kameez with a waistcoat or a formal suit and banned informal appearances after the Supreme Court rebuked the then Lahore Deputy Commissioner over inappropriate dressing.
