In a major move to bolster Pakistan’s international trade relations, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday decided to dispatch a high-level delegation to the United States to engage in talks over new tariffs and promotion of bilateral trade, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported.

According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the delegation will comprise prominent business leaders and exporters, handpicked to represent Pakistan’s economic interests.

Chairing a detailed review meeting in Islamabad on the issue of US-imposed tariffs and strategies to enhance Pakistan’s exports, the premier directed that the delegation formulate a mutually beneficial mechanism after consultations with US authorities.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, along with PM’s Adviser Syed Touqeer Shah, Assistants Tariq Fatemi and Haroon Akhtar, and Coordinator Rana Ahsan Afzal.

Officials informed the prime minister that Pakistan's embassy in Washington is in continuous contact with the US administration regarding the new tariffs. A report prepared by the steering committee and working group was also presented, offering several alternative strategies to safeguard Pakistan’s trade interests.

Highlighting the long-standing nature of Pak-US trade relations, the prime minister reiterated the government’s resolve to strengthen and diversify the economic partnership with Washington.
