The bail plea of Somia Asim, the main accused in the housemaid Rizwana torture case, was rejected Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi pronounced the reserved verdict, rejecting the post-arrest bail plea of Somia Asim.
The lawyers for Somia Asim also exchanged hot words with Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi as she pronounced the verdict.
Earlier, Somia Asim filed a petition for post-arrest bail in a local court of Islamabad.
“The allegations levelled in the first information report (FIR) are baseless and exaggerated. Rizwana was staying at Somia Asim’s house with her parents’ permission,” the petition stated.
“Somia Asim treated Rizwana as her own child. The facts against Somia Asim were distorted. She is in a life and death struggle due to negative media campaign,” it added.
“Somia Asim is an educated, respectable and polite lady. She is innocent and falsely implicated in the case. There is no evidence to link her to the allegations levelled,” it stated.
“Somia Asim’s implication in the case is for malicious and nefarious purposes. The court should approve her post-arrest bail plea,” it demanded.
The court issued a notice to the police for August 10 on the post-arrest bail plea of Somia Asim. Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi conducted the hearing.
