The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Inland Revenue Enforcement Network, which had been established to stop tax evasion in five sectors, is yet to become fully functional, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Quoting sources, the TV channel reported that Network’s inefficiency could be gauged from the fact that it carried out only one operation in the Lahore division during the last one and a half year.

The FBR had established Inland Revenue Enforcement Network on September 26, 2019, with the objective to stop the illegal trade of cigarettes, sugar, fertilizers, cement and beverages.

Similarly, the Board’s claims that the enforcement network’s squads are patrolling the routes used for the transportation of these items have proved to be false since only three officers of the network have been assigned the task to monitor their movement in the entire Lahore division.

These three officers are one additional commissioner and two inspectors.

The sources told 24News that neither these officers had been provided the budget for their activities nor any office.
