Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government has accepted the IMF programme under compulsion, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He expressed his hope that Pakistan would stand on its own feet, and poverty would also be eliminated. He said if we wanted to end beggary, we have to stand on our own feet. “We did not accept the IMF programme happily. No, we accepted it under compulsion,” he added.

On this occasion, the prime minister also appreciated the efforts of Army Chief General Asim Munir for securing the $2 billion loan from Saudi Arabia which the State Bank received today.

PM Shehbaz was addressing the opening ceremony of Phase One of FATA University in Peshawar on Tuesday.

This is the first university of merged tribal districts which will provide latest education to the capable students of these districts.

The Prime Minister also distributed laptops among the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and addressed a gathering there.   

Later, addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister said 100,000 laptops are being distributed purely on merit basis across the country.

Speaking about the country's difficult economic situation, Shehbaz Sharif stressed need of learning from past mistakes.

He said this is right time to shape future of the country with expeditious efforts in agriculture, Information Technology, minerals, export and other sectors.

Prime Minister said government has devised a comprehensive project to utilize agricultural power as game changer sector for country’s economy.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali expressed determination of supporting vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for development of the country.

Addressing the ceremony, Adviser to Prime Minister Engineer Amir Muqam thanked the Prime Minister for working day and night in improving crucial economic situation.
