Two policemen arrested in Lahore for harassing university student

October 11, 2020 02:16 AM

The policemen, who allegedly harassed a university student in a Lahore hotel earlier this week, were arrested on Saturday.

Police have booked the prime suspect, Sub-Inspector Arshad Bhatti, whom the victim named in her video after the alleged incident took place, and his accomplice Tariq.

Earlier this week, the student said in a video message that policemen barged in her room in the middle of the night and harassed her. She said the prime suspect Arshad even coerced her to go out with him.

Explaining the incident, the victim said she had booked a room at a hotel in Lahore and around 2:30 am the next day the sub-inspector Bhatti along with other police officials knocked the door of her room. She accused Bhatti of harassing and forcing her to go with him. The policeman also forced the student to share her phone number with him.

Two more police officials accompanying Bhatti, she said, forcibly entered her room and started asking her odd questions. She said that police officials used ‘abusive language’ with her.

Punjab Police Inspector General Inam Ghani took notice of the incident after the news went viral on social media and sought an inquiry into the incident from Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh.
