Over 19 people were injured when sloganeering against President Asif Ali Zardari led to a clash between two groups belonging to Mastoi and Lund tribes in Tando Allahyar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The injured were taken to the DHQ and Civil Hospitals.

Heavy police contingent rushed to the site to calm down the situation.

According to an elder of Mastoi clan, Dr. Arbab Mastoi, some people shouted slogans against the president at a rally taken out to denounce the carving out of canals from the River Indus. “A clash was feared which did take place and some persons belonging to the clan were injured,” Mastoi added.

Members of the Lund clan, on the other hand, said that the clash took place over a piece of land.

They said that the police failed to control the situation, which eventually led to a clash.

Police said they were trying to ascertain how the incident occurred.
