Bid to smuggle Rs450m worth of foreign goods foiled at Torkham

On the orders of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Pakistan Customs Monday seized foreign goods worth Rs450 million from a cargo vehicle at the Torkham border crossing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to Customs Collector Amjadur Rehman, the Customs officials carried out the operation at Torkham import terminal on a tip-off.

The foreign goods had been concealed in a vehicle laden with coal. As many as 322 tyres and a large amount of medicines were among the foreign goods seized.

“On the orders of the Ministry of Finance, the crackdown on the smuggling of foreign goods is going on,” Customs Collector Amjadur Rehman said.

“The Customs has received strict instructions from the Ministry of Finance to stop the smuggling of foreign goods,” he added.

“The security officials have been put on high alert at all four border crossings of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he stated.
