Fifth case of monkeypox surfaces in Pakistan

A new case of monkeypox has been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of infected patients to five in Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of National Health, the affected individual is from Lower Dir and recently returned from a Gulf country.
Based on symptoms seen during the screening of the patient, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department referred him for testing.
Fortunately, the patient is in good health and has been quarantined at home.
Dr. Mukhtar Malik Bharth, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for National Health, praised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department for its proactive measures in preventing the spread of monkeypox.
He praised the continuous work being done by border health services personnel, who ensure that airports are screened, and the strong collaboration between federal and provincial experts who work around the clock.
Previously, symptoms of monkeypox were found in 4 other individuals from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with confirmed cases in travellers returning from abroad.
