The Islamabad High Court Monday reserved its verdict on the admissibility of a plea of PML-N MNA Captain retired Safdar Awan, seeking foolproof security, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
During the hearing counsel of Safdar, Jahangir Jadoon stated before the court that protection of lives and properties of the citizen is the responsibility of the state and his client is being politically targeted.
“Cases against him were registered in Sindh, KP and Punjab”, the counsel said and pleaded the court to order foolproof security provision to Safdar Awan.
Chief Justice IHC Justice Athar Minhallah remarked though the protection of the lives and properties is the responsibility of the state, the court cannot direct the state for the provision of security.
Jadoon told the court that Safdar has submitted an application to secretary interior but the secretary remains indecisive.
The chief justice said it was the state’s responsibility to protect every citizen and the state does not need any court directive for doing so.
The chief justice said in the state being governed under constitution no one should be fee threatened.
The chief justice asked that from whom the applicant feels threatened?
His lawyer replied that the threat can be from anyone as it has been also widely reported in the media regarding threat alert to the political figures.
The court remarked that every citizen of 220m Pakistanis then would the demand special security.
Counsel Jadoon replied that Safdar is not a common man as he is the husband of Maryam Nawaz.
Chief Justice IHC Justice Athar Minhallah remarked that it was unfortunate that the state has considered some as VIPs and others as common persons.
He said that this court has already rejected all such applications and would give observation that the state should provide security to every citizen of the country.
The chief justice said the applicant should have confidence in the state.
Jahangir Jadoon said they move the court only due to the state’s inaction.
Later, the verdict in the plea was reserved by the IHC.
Naming the interior ministry as respondent, he had requested the IHC to direct it to liaise with the IGPs of KPK, Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad to provide him foolproof security whenever he travels to different areas of the country.
