Lahore emerges as world’s fourth most-polluted city as smog retreats

Visible reduction in smog has been witnessed in Lahore as, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 216, it stood on the fourth position in the ranking of the world’s most polluted cities on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


Dhaka, with the AQI standing at 299, Tashkent in Uzbekistan with the AQI 270, and Kolkata with the AQI 262, were the top three most polluted cities.


The air quality over Brevzon in Lahore was the worst as the AQI there was recorded at 416. Brevzon was followed by Phase 8, DHA where the AQI was 371.


Phase 8 in DHA with the AQI 371 was third on the list.


Next came the turn of The Mall where the AQI stood at 322. Similarly the AQI over Generation Private Limited was recorded at 315.


On the other hand, fog not only made the weather chilly in the provincial capital but it also resulted in a marked reduction in visibility.


The humidity level in the air was 87 per cent.


The Met Office forecast dry weather for the city during the next 24 hours.


It said that the temperature would remain 22 degrees Celsius on the maximum side while 8 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.
