Former DG FIA Bashir Memon said on Tuesday that he preferred to resign rather than filing ‘fake’ corruption cases against Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, his sons Hamza Shehbaz, Suleman Shehbaz and son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Captain (r) Safdar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media outside the court after attending the hearing of his petition for extension in the interim bail, he said there was nothing ‘fishy’ in the business transactions the Sharif family had made.
Earlier, counsel for Memon told the court that he had filed two petitions in the Lahore High Court (LHC). “It is requested to the court to extend the interim bail granted to my client unless the high court gives decisions on these applications,” he said.
The court then adjourned hearing of the case until April 5.
When a reporter asked him whether any PML-N office-bearer contacted him or appreciated his work, former FIA DG replied there was nothing wrong with contacting or talking to a PML-N leader. “However, I am not a politician," he said categorically.
